Fitter Futures by Beeston Hill

Though the pandemic drastically changed all our lives, we have seen a disproportionate effect on the health and wellbeing of our aging population. At Beeston Hill, we have been thinking long and hard about how to give our elder parents, friends, and neighbors the opportunity to be part of a thriving health, fitness, and wellness community. Out of this desire to bring back a post-pandemic community of strong, functional, and engaged seniors living their best lives, we created Fitter Futures by Beeston Hill, a 501(c)(3) Domestic Nonprofit Corporation.

At Beeston Hill, we believe health, fitness and wellness is for everyone. We want to dispel the myth that as we age, we should give up functional movement, strength, and mobility, as well as the camaraderie and support that a fitness-oriented community offers. With that vision in mind, we launched Fitter Futures by Beeston Hill, to bring no-cost health and fitness classes to Seniors on St. Croix!

We are calling on you, or friends, members, and supporters, to help make this vision a reality!
Planned improvements to make this possible:
• Installation of 2 AED devices.
• Handicapped accessible door and wheelchair ramp to pool.
• Handicapped-accessible restroom and changing room by pool.
• Repairs and improved accessibility to pool.
• Wheelchair lift.
• Expanded handicapped-accessible bathrooms.

Aqua Fitness

Zero-impact aqua fitness classes are one of the best tools for strengthening the aging or those recovering from accident or injury. Increasing strength improves balance by improving your ability to control and stabilize your body's position, reducing the risk of falls for older adults. Increased strength builds stronger bones, leading to fewer fractures in the event of falls. By reducing the risk of falls and injuries, aquatic exercise can help seniors live independently for longer.

Fight Heart Disease, Diabetes & More

Exercise can protect against many chronic illnesses, like cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. If you already have a chronic condition, physical activity can help reduce symptoms. Regular physical activity makes your heart stronger, lowering blood pressure. Exercise also requires muscles use more glucose, the sugar in your blood stream. Over time, this can lower your blood sugar levels. Overall, regular exercise can prevent, improve, or even eliminate some of the chronic lifestyle and aging-related ailments that affect many older adults.

Get a Mood Boost!

Exercise stimulates the release of serotonin, which can improve your sense of control, coping ability and self-esteem. Regular exercise can also improve sleep quality, which helps you manage your mood. In older adults, regular exercise helps in maintaining a healthy neurochemical balance, which decreases mood disorder symptoms, reduces stress, and gives a feeling of calmness and relaxation.
MOVE for improved quality of life, both physically and mentally!
